Hai Phong City’s Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival
Capture one of Vietnam’s most intense and traditional festivals with us in September. The Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival. But, be warned: it’s not for the faint of heart.
Do Son Buffalo Fighting Festival is a annual event held in the small coastal town of Do Son, near Ha Long Bay. Thousands of spectators descend on Do Son to watch locally-trained buffalo clash one-to-one in a festival that celebrates fertility and martial spirit. We’ll photograph all of the morning’s events: colourful processions leading competitors into the town stadium, drum parades inside the arena, and the fighting itself in front of a passionate crowd. Our search for great images takes us from the sleepy streets of Do Son to the packed stalls along stadium way, and into the depths of the roaring arena. During the course of the tour, we’ll shoot and select a 12 picture story about this unforgettable festival.
